ATKOTT, Inc. is a small consulting practice dedicated to supporting its clients as they implement organizational process and technology improvements. Most of our clients have focused improvement programs using the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) which sometimes incorporate other improvement models or techniques as well (e.g., ISO Standards, PMBOK, Agile Methods).

ATKOTT, Inc. typically takes a multi-prone approach to your improvement program. In our efforts to support your business we provide consulting, training and appraisal services.

As the president and chief consultant of ATKOTT, Inc., Shane Atkinson brings 30+ years of experience in software and systems development. Mr. Atkinson has broad industry experience working in the defense/government environment as well as commercial experience in telecom, electronics, automotive, healthcare and insurance fields. He has been helping organizations improve by using the capability maturity models since the early 1990s. Mr. Atkinson is a Certified High Maturity Lead Appraiser as well as an CMMI Institute-Certified Instructor in CMMI for both Development and Services. He has conducted over 200 formal and informal maturity model based appraisals in the last 20 years. He consults and appraises both large multi-national corporations as well as very small businesses. He has conducted appraisals in 11 different countries on 4 different continents. He has experienced both the discipline and robustness of formal waterfall development activities and the nimbleness and efficiency of modern agile methods. Mr. Atkinson believes that improvement is generally not driven by strict model compliance but by using the model as a guide to apply the best practices in the context of the entire business environment.
ATKOTT teams with other like-minded, independent Lead Appraisers to work on larger engagements and provide backup in case of emergency. Among these include AgileDigm (agiledigm.com), Evalucid LLC (www.evalucid.com), Global Process Solutions, Excellence in Measurement Technology, LLC (EMT) (excellenceinmeasurement.com), and Layman and Layman (www.laymanandlayman.com). Similar resources are used to ensure that conflicts of interest issues arising on engagements may be handled appropriately. For instance, when extensive consulting and/or process development is provided, it is not appropriate for the same resource to lead the organization's appraisal.
